KATIKIES HOTEL SANTORINI - REVIEWS
TRAVEL & LEISURE (MAY 1996)
Perfect days in Greece
"The right hotel for the equally magical village of Oia: a
fantasy of free-form stairs, bridges, walls, and cave houses that
duplicate, on a small scale, the surreal layout of Oia itself. Interiors
have plank floors, antiques, and rough-hewn furniture. The honeymoon
suite has a hidden hot tub. Everyone has a terrace, but it's often
difficult to know whose is whose. The pool is spectacular. "Katikies"
offers a luxurious contemporary take on Santorini's Ancient cliff
dwellings"

Greece's sensuous daughter of cataclysm
"A Cycladic fantasy of free-form sculptured
architecture cascades down the cliffs of this quiet village of elegant
rooms/ studios, some with kitchenettes, all with patios. The dramatic
pool seems to float above the caldera".

50 most spectacular pools in the world
"Not for those with vertigo, the extraordinary infinity pool
at the center of this pretentious hotel is cantilevered over the
edge of the island's characteristic volcanic cliffs".

"Speculate on the legend from your private veranda at Katikies
hotel, on the lip of the caldera, in Oia, a town where visitors
go for sunsets"

Room key
"The room with the most amazing view in the Greek islands,
Room 24 is built into the cliff of the caldera, the side of a huge
volcanic crater. It overlooks the volcano itself, the islands, the
bay and the deep blue sea covering the heart of Santorini, which
was submerged in an eruption in 1550bc. Far below, on the water's
edge is the Nomikos's house (looking like a boatyard) and John Latsis's
yacht Alexander, if his daughter Mariana has come to call. Designed
with the traditional white, barreled roof, Room 24 has a sleeping
loft, a bath that's tunneled into the wall with a window in front,
a sitting room, an outside dining room, a terrace with shade Jacuzzi
and private stairs to the swimming-pool. There's another terrace
for watching the legendary sunset. Simple but sensational."

Ten small but perfectly formed gems
"A stylish hideaway hotel in Greece has hitherto been as mythological
as Zeus. So here's a small miracle: exciting modern architecture
built on the rim of a volcanic crater, good food unfettered by feta,
delicious local wine and thoughtful, speedy service. Judging the
staff by how fast they leap up and down the stairs, the joint at
Katikies is jumping. Nicos Pagonis cares very much about his vertiginous
jewel in Oia, the prettiest village on Santorini. The island is
extraordinary: an eruption in 1550bc submerged its center, leaving
the crater into which Katikies whitewashed rooms and suites are
tunneled. All on different levels, connected by stairs and bridges,
each has a blue-floored terrace or balcony overlooking the deep
blue sea 300 feet below, where yachts sail by, Unpretentious, it's
"minimalist goes Mediterranean", with illusion-line pool,
sleek little bar, restaurant with scrubbed tables and at night,
perched on an impossible rocky outcrop, a dining room with four
tables in a white calico tent. Forget retsina-Santorini's wine is
excellent, from vines grown on volcanic soil. Room 24 has its own
staircase to the pool, sensational view, huge deck, Jacuzzi and
terrace for the sunset."
COTE SUD
"Un bonheur olympien. Fille de l' Atlantide, Santorin exerce
une seduction o u se melent les fastes de la mythologie et la douceur
du quotidien. Eblouissnat jeu de cubes a flanc de volcan dans la tradition
cycladique, l' hotel Katikies y offre une escale benie des dieux."
RESIDENCES DECORATION
"Mille attention, le sens de l' accueil, un sourire chaleureux,
un service parfait, une disponibilite a toute heure du jour, telle
est la signature de l' hotel Katikies."
