Naxos island is the largest of the cyclades
islands and full of archaeological sites, endless beaches, picturesque
chapels, wild deserted mountains, green valleys, typical Greek villages.
Blessed by lush valeys, Naxos is
the prettiest of the Cyclades Islands.

Town, is built on a hillside overlooking the busy harbour with its customary
tavernas, cafes and shops
lining the waterfront.
The Portara, two marble pillars topped by a lintel, was
erectedabout 2,500 years ago as the entrance to
a temple of the Greek God Apollo. However it was never finished and
the doorway has remainedin splendid isolation ever since.
From Naxos town main square, picturesque little streets wind their way
up to the imposing Kastro - A Castle built by the Venetians. Many fine
old Venetian mansions can still be seen interspersed with whitewashed
Greek Houses.
Naxos Island has wonderful sandy beaches, with some may
be the best of Cyclades islands.
The best beaches stretching for miles south of the town.
Among the most popular, Agios Georgios beach is the closest tio Naxos
town, aprox 10 minutes walking,
with windsurfing, waterskiing facilities.
The most beautiful coasts of the island are in the west side sandy beaches.
Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Plaka, Mikri Vigla, Kastraki, Alyko, Pyrgaki.
As these beaches are located in the south west part of the island they
are protected from the north wind which plague the Aegean islands during
summer months, the known 'meltemi'.
Naxos island has many villages worth of visiting them.
Filoti Village is the second biggest place on Naxos and located
at the slope of Mount Zas.
The mainn square of the village is excellent for a rest under the platan
trees with its cafes and tavernas.


Apirathos, discover the traditional beauty of the marble village,
with its alleys made from marble at the foot of mountain Phanari and
don't miss its three important museums.
Koronos, with its valley of vineyards, is a little village at
the edge of Koronos Mountain.
Long ago, during the Industrial Revolution in Greece, Koronos was very
important. The emery mined in Koronos was carried down to Moutsouna
(the old export harbor) by cable car.
Apollonas was a fishing village. Located in the very northern
part of Naxos it lives on tourism now.
It promises a nice lunch and a view at the nice little bay.
Naxos Island is an exciting destination, puzzle of different landscapes,
combination of the old and the modern. No matter how many days you stay
on Naxos there are still things to see and to discover.
