Mykonos
Island is perhaps the most cosmopolitan Island of Cyclades
islands in Greece. Mykonos, as cosmopolitan Island has intense nightly
and tourist life and keeps awake until the morning all the fans of nightlife.
It constitutes the classic island for the tourist that seeks the amusement
and fun.
Superb beaches, white-washed cube houses and hotels,
sophisticated nightlife, non-stop party can picture Mykonos. On the
surrounding hills of Mykonos Island, brilliant white sugar – cube buildings
are highlighted with splashes of color from their bright blue shutters
and beautiful flowers, and a row of windmills stands guard looking out
to the open sea. Its circular harbor is lined with stylish café bars
and restaurants looking out on the fishing boats bobbing at anchor.
Mykonos
town, is stretched out in the light of helium, with the graphic
windmills, and is one of the most enchanting Cycladic cities. Mykonos
town is a pfretty town, with brightly-painted balconies and a maze
of narrow streets. Mykonos
town is one of the liveliest (if not the top) places in Greece after
dark.
When the sun goes down, the town’s maze of narrow streets and buzzing
as the smart restaurants, fashionable night clubs with live entertainment,
all shown into action.
At about 4 km from the center of Mykonos
town, you will find Platys
Yialos Beach, a very popular beach
on the south side of the island. It is also one of the longest beaches
on Mykonos.
Here from one may hire a small boat to visit other beaches like Paradise,
Super Paradise etc.
Platis Yialos beach
is a resort by itself, having many hotels of various categories, restaurants
and small shops.
There is a very good connection by bus with Mykonos
town, till very late at night.
Paradise
and Super Paradise are the two most charming and famous beaches,
that lie on the south side of Mykonos. One can arrive there mainly with
small caiques that pull out frequently during the day from Platis
Yialos beach, or by an easy to cover dirt road that leads to the
airport and continues in the direction of Paraga
Beach and Paradise (just before Mykonos airport) and Super Paradise
and Agrari Beach,
straight passed the airport. The blue sea and the splendid sandy beaches
will offer you unforgettable moments of pleasure.
Elia beach, in a
distance of about 9 km away from Mykonos
town, is a picturesque seaside, with crystal clear waters, which
is worth visiting. In the area just before Elia
beach, there is a water park called "watermania" with
lots of water activities (slides etc).
Ano
Mera,the most populated village (other than Mykonos town) located 9
km from Mykonos town. Because of the area's peaceful environment and
location, wherefrom visitors may have easily access to the splendid
beaches of Elia,
Kalo Livadi, Kalafatis
and Aghia Anna, Ano Mera has been developed and nowadays offers the
possibility to find accommodation for an overnight stay. In the small
central square you shall find tavernas and pastry shops serving traditional
sweets.
Mykonos Island is so popular as it does attract all kind of people
from Greece and abroad and provides hospitality with no toleration.
There is no need to search for gay friendly accommodation, since all
hotels and apartments are gay friendly. The most celebrated gay-friendly
beach in Mykonos (and the Mediterranean) is Paradise, where you can
also bath nude. Busses and boats will take you there.
In
1933 the first visitors of Mykonos appeared, coming to admire the antiquities
of Delos and the Museum of Mykonos. Since the
mid-fifties Mykonos has been gradually transformed into a cosmopolitan
resort attracting tourists from all over the world. Always famous for
its nightlife, Mykonos town is still. The nights are endless on Mykonos
and can not be described. You have to be there to feel the unique atmosphere.
